OK, OK... you probably know something about the history of hip hop dance (I'm sure you do!). but how did all began? lets go back to the good old 60's..

The real hip hop professionals know that the first hip hop music hits were born in the African Americans New Yorkers Block parties in the Bronx during the 1970s. In the first hip hop hits performers began speaking while the music (especially funk and soul music) played. These were originally called MCs.

Well, we can't talk about the history of hip hop dance without mentioning the guy in the picture. I don't know if you know it or not, but you have Mythological dad named DJ Kool Herc. Could you guess that?? Yes, he was one of the most popular DJs in early 70s New York. With his other DJ's friends, they began mixing and scratching the music along with the breaks, and the singers began speaking while the music played. MCs...


The Mc's

These were originally called Mc's. they used to emceed for hours at a time, with some improvisation and a simple four-count beat, along with a basic chorus to allow the performer to gather his thoughts (such as "one, two, three, y'all, to the beat, y'all"). During the years more emcee teams quickly sprouted up, such as collaborations between former gang members, (for example Afrika Bambaataa's Universal Zulu Nation).

The 1980s

LL Cool J - 1980's hip hop
Some hip hoppers decided to involve a more complex form of music: the simple tales of 1970s emcees were replaced by highly metaphoric lyrics rapping over complex, multi-layered beats. Some rappers even became mainstream pop performers, including Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J (in the picture), Slick Rick, and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, who won hip hop's first Grammy Award in 1988.

Number of new hip hop styles and subgenres began appearing: a mixture of electronic & rock music, new black female group,(Salt-N-Pepa) and the beginning of gangsta hip hop (along with Schoolly D, LL Cool J and N.W.A.) and hard-edged politicized performers such as Public Enemy.

Pretty soon spawned an inevitable confrontation between the East Coast and West Coast: This sales rivalry eventually turned into a personal rivalry, and unfortunately resulting in the deaths of Tupac Shakur (in the picture) and Notorious B.I.G.. The history of hip hop dance now close to its edge. Nowadays gangsta rap is still the dominant in the mainstream setting, and alternative hip hop has had a second boom. The internet helps spreading other subgeners popularity such as Instrumental hip hop and groups such as Atmosphere, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5 and rappers such as Aesop Rock and Sage Francis have found audiences in urban and suburban settings alike, and have become surprisingly popular with indie rock audiences.
